Women have their own side of "media". We're split into genders, then by categories that include variations of interests.
Some social media influences our perception, and that influences what we do.
Long story short, when a celebrity removes her breasts and fallopian tubes because of possibility of cancer due to a gene during a test, maybe just keeping tabs on health with checkups is a sane option.
Statistically, such operations "doubled" - i.e in the same clinic by 400 annual operations (total around 800).
But as a celebrity, they probably know the basic psychology of the fans - some things will be repeated by them.
I don't understand willing self-mutilation for preemptive reasons. Never mind conscious decisions just for physical alteration.
Although Angelina's "diagnosis" was in 2013, it's still crazy to think how people are influenced to change themselves physically because of their idols.
